Program: Piano works by Arnold Schönberg

When Manos Tsangaris composes, it is not only sounds and words that find new forms, but also spaces and audiences. Born in Düsseldorf in 1956, the composer, percussionist, artist and lyricist channels his examination of Arnold Schönberg at Wien Modern into a large, new and somewhat "walkable" series of works. At a total of four locations around Karlsplatz, "Arnold Elevators" will become a festival within a festival: "Blicke" in the Secession (November 13–15) invites you to explore six spaces from the basement to the roof, from the goods lift to the meeting room on an individual route. Schönberg’s fascination with looks ("Blicke" in German, as in gazes, glances or views) leads step by step to a polyphony of musical-theatrical visual axes. "Schönes Wetter in Gmunden", (November 19–21) a chain of six "public private shows" in different spots of the Brahms Hall for nine listeners each, is a tour through one of the most dramatic episodes in Schonberg’s biography. At "Doppelportrait mit Arnold" in the Vienna Konzerthaus, the audience switches seats in the intermission. And on a few evenings, the Arnold Schönberg Center turns into a "Metabolischer Salon" with various guests and talks.
